Cardiomyopathy Treatments

Cardiomyopathy is a serious disease that occurs when the heart becomes inflamed to the point where it no longer works properly. Causes can be numerous, as the condition can be attributed to high blood pressure, congenital heart defects, or a variety of other diseases. There are three main types of cardiomyopathy: dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive--each of which have different treatment methods.

Choosing the Right Cardiomyopathy Treatments
Dilated cardiomyopathy is when the heart cavity is so enlarged it no longer pumps correctly, increasing the odds for blood clots. Anticoagulants are typically prescribed in order to avoid clot formation.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is when the muscle mass of the left ventricle enlarges, obstructing blood flow. Beta blocker drugs, calcium channel blockers or even surgery have all become part of standard treatment. Finally, restrictive cardiomyopathy is when the heart muscles of the ventricles become rigid, making it harder for them to fill with blood. This is the rarest form of the disease.

Natural Cardiomyopathy Treatments
Co-Q10 may have a significant benefit for those with dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. L-Carnotine Fumerate may be helpful as well. See double-blind trial of CoQ10 and myopathic symptoms resulting from current statin use.
